Fruit Logistica has grown to become the world’s largest trade show for fruits and vegetables, serving as a global platform for fresh produce, machinery and technology, and logistics. The 2025 edition of Fruit Logistica took place at Messe Berlin, Germany, from February 5–7, bringing together over 91,000 professionals from across the fresh produce industry. This premier event offers opportunities to meet customers and suppliers, present new products and innovations, connect with key stakeholders, and stay informed about the latest industry developments.

Rijk Zwaan’s presence at Fruit Logistica 2025

As a global leader in seed innovation, Rijk Zwaan recognizes the immense value of participating in Fruit Logistica. The event provides an unparalleled opportunity to showcase our latest advancements and engage with key stakeholders, including growers, traders, exporters, retailers, and end consumers. Our presence at Fruit Logistica reinforces our commitment to fostering strong partnerships and driving innovation in the fresh produce sector.

One of our unique assets, the RZ Retail Center in Berlin, plays a crucial role in this engagement. This exclusive facility allows us to introduce our latest innovations to clients while gathering valuable feedback to enhance the quality of fruits and vegetables through continuous breeding efforts.

“Care Turns Clients into Partners”

At Rijk Zwaan, we believe that care and collaboration transform clients into long-term partners. Over the past few years, we have seen increasing participation from our Indian clients at Fruit Logistica, reflecting their growing interest in global business opportunities, advanced technologies, and sustainable supply chain solutions.

This year, representatives from various sectors—including protected cultivation, trading, exporting, and retailing—attended Fruit Logistica and visited the RZ Retail Center in Berlin. Notable Indian clients such as Happy Farm, Agrotie, Kay Bee Exports, Gemtree, Farm to Table, Purecrop, and Nesto, along with Noon from the UAE, engaged in insightful discussions with Rijk Zwaan’s global team and crop specialists. Last year, prominent retailers like Reliance Retail and TATA-TESCO also visited our stand and Retail Center, further strengthening our relationships in the Indian market.

Focus crops and key insights

This year, Rijk Zwaan highlighted innovations in several key crops, including:

  • Melons and Watermelons
  • Virus-resistant Tomatoes
  • SN!BS (Snack Vegetables) and Lettuces

With many of our Indian clients focused on melon and watermelon cultivation and export, our Crop Coordinator, Mr. Bernardo, led in-depth discussions to explore growth opportunities. Similarly, interest in the protected cultivation of tomatoes and snack vegetables was evident among Indian growers.

Aligning with retail growth and consumer trends

As India’s retail industry is expanding rapidly, Rijk Zwaan aims to align its products with evolving consumer preferences. In today’s world, whether it's growers, retailers or end users everybody wants to try something new each day. So, our specialized category of products and concepts demand will grow in near future depending on the consumer awareness. IGD data shows how the market will grow in the upcoming years.

The key trends shaping India’s modern trade channels include:

  • Supermarkets’ leadership in modern trade – Supermarkets will maintain their dominance and experience the highest growth in the next five years. It is essential to ensure that Rijk Zwaan’s products and services are well-positioned to capitalize on this expansion.
  • E-commerce acceleration – The pandemic has fueled rapid growth in online grocery platforms, with BigBasket leading the market. Other players are expanding aggressively, making it crucial for Rijk Zwaan to ensure a robust supply chain to support this continued growth.
